The Holiday Camp

The Calenella Holiday Camp is located between San Menaio and Peschici, in the heart of the National Park of Gargano in Apulia, in one of Italy’s most characteristic scenarios.
Set in a pine forest of tall trees, the Camp is the perfect place for a beach holiday full of nature and fun.

Stay options: one-room or three-room bungalows or mobile homes; a large pine forest provides space for camping, caravans and trailers.
We also provide dance animation, swimming pools, an adventure playground for children, an athletic track for adults, evening entertainment, local-cuisine restaurants, a private beach, tennis courts and football fields, a disco area, a newsagent, a bar, a pizzeria, a shuttle service and much more.
In all of this, we pay particular attention to respect for nature and sustainability.

Our history

The Calenella Camp was created in 1972 as a result of the conversion of a livestock farm into an accommodation facility. With the passing of time that transformation, which back then aroused some doubts, has turned out to be a happy choice. It has been an extraordinary adventure we have undertaken with great enthusiasm, always trying to combine the pleasure of working with having fun and without being overly influenced by the logic of a commercial firm.

Throughout these years the camping has undergone several changes, as was to be expected.

We have adapted and improved the facilities and the internal organization always mindful, however, not to alter the identity of this place. Our aim has been to ensure that the spirit of Calenella, the pleasure of human relationships, and the scents that can be enjoyed in this pine forest may remain the same as those of the past.

Paz

With Andrea Pazienza we lived wonderful and unforgettable years during which the campsite kept its role as the reference point of our friendship. He too was particularly attached to Calenella and all the cartoons, drawings and illustrations that he left us are the precious evidence of this love.

The Surroundings

Several interesting places to visit are situated at only a few kilometres away from the Calenella Holiday Camp.

Vico del Gargano has an extraordinarily beautiful historic centre which still retains a truly authentic character.

A few miles further inland, after Vico del Gargano, lies the Foresta Umbra, whose rich mountain vegetation is at a short distance from a typically coastal environment.

The coast of Gargano is considered as one of the main natural patrimonies of Italy: it features about 140 km of coastline with a number of beachesbays and coves.

The Calenella beach, surrounded by a thick vegetation at the foot of the Monte Pucci Tower, is made of fine white sand; the plain behind it is cultivated with vegetables.

The characteristic site of Peschici, which is only five minutes away from the Holiday Camp.

Trebuchets” typically feature our coastlines; they are complex structures of wooden poles that intertwine with wires and pulleys, an ancient and effective fishing method that exploits the migration of schools of fish from the north to the south of the Adriatic. Some “trebuchets” have been turned into very typical restaurants where you can enjoy freshly caught fish.

The Tremiti Islands are one of the most beautiful Marine Nature Reserves of our country.
