The Sea

It is possible to arrive at the Tourist Village Calenella from both coastal of the Gargano as well as from North that brings from Marina di Lesina to Vieste, passing through Rodi Garganico and Peschici, or either the one coming from South, that brings from Manfredonia to Vieste passing the Bay of “Zagare” or Bay of the “Faraglioni”.
Following the road that brings to Rodi Garganico and over, you will reach the Highway of the Gargano that connects Lesina with his famous lake of Lesina. Those who love the sandy coastal and the lake environments, it is very easy to choose one of the many ways out that bring along the coast of the lake of Varano and then the coast, otherwise towards the lake of Lesina for reaching the sea. Instead for those who like the coasts and a more nearby sea at the woods, made out of bays and quite corners, the direction to take is that one that brings towards Vico del Gargano, deciding to stop indifferently in the beautiful Peschici or arrive until Vieste on the sea coast.
You can also choose to go to the south part for knowing the sea, parting from the beaches of Manfredonia, for going along towards the white Mattinata and his beaches made of gravel and his clean sea. Between Mattinata and Vieste who decides to follow the sea coast will find an going “down” towards the sea discovering the innumerable and very famous bays of the Gargano.

The Nature
The Gargano is also National Park of the Gargano and in which the flora and fauna (especially the avifauna) is the master. Leaving from San Mennaio it is easy to reach, or going towards Gagnano Varano or towards Monte San Angelo, Bosco Quarto in which internal it is possible to make wonderful excursions by foot or doing touring by bicycle in bicycle or mountain bike . To not forget that the Gargano gives hospitality to one of the biggest forests of Europe: the “Foresta Umbra”

The story, the archaeology
The Gargano, since in memorial times, has been populated by men, as well as by animals. It is the cradle of the story of this zone and it is an enchanting place all to be discovered.
In the territory of Rignano Garganico, we will find “Grotta Pagglicci” (a cave) and the relative Museum, unequivocal witness of the presence of the man, of his jewels and his graffiti since the Palaeolithic. In Mattinata has been discovered on the calcareous rocks tracks of dinosaurs. The Gargano has been cradle of the mythical “Diomedea” (albatross) (mythological Bird), from which the wonderful Tremiti Islands, derive precisely their second name” The Diomedee”.

The Gargano cradle of belief
It is from the Sacred Mountain of the Gargano that the pilgrims and the crusaders set off towards the Holy Earth, after having prayed in the cave of the Angel, place of the appearance of the Archangel Saint Michael. Since that long time ago, has been build an enchanting Basilica to receive better the pilgrims, today destination of million believers. Monte San Angelo is only at 25 Km distance from San Giovanni Rotondo and is an enchanting town full of history and final destination of the “Via Sacra Longobardum (street of the Pilgrims) which touched the Sanctuary of “Santa Maria Stignano” in the area of San Marco in Lamis and the Convent of San Matteo, placed in one of the most pleasant and suggestive places of the Gargano.

San Giovanni Rotondo, since always known as religious destination, is positioned in the heart of the Gargano. The Gargano is, since always, open earth, of conquest, of dreams. It is in her, that many men and women in the passed and still today have found and ask hope. An earth of crossing to the Orient, an earth rich of hospitality, of spirituality, of naturalistic and historical beauties. An earth that, between the first, has gathered the evangelic message for amplifying it.
The Gargano is also earth of dreams for the beauties of his receiving and at the same time wild territory. There are on the Gargano beaches and bays between the most aspired and famous of Italy, but also woods, fauna and archaeological and historical sites of very relevant interesting.
