A strategic location to explore the Gargano

Calenella Camping Village is located in the heart of the Gargano National Park, one of the most fascinating natural areas in southern Italy. Thanks to its strategic position between Peschici and Rodi Garganico, our Camping Village is the perfect starting point to explore the most beautiful places in the Gargano.
Just a few kilometres inland you will find Vico del Gargano, a charming historic village known for its authentic atmosphere and traditional architecture. A little further lies the spectacular Umbra Forest, a unique mountain ecosystem surrounded by Mediterranean landscapes.
The Gargano coastline is considered one of the most important natural treasures of Puglia and southern Italy, with around 140 kilometres of coastline featuring sandy beaches, hidden coves, sea caves and dramatic cliffs overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
The beach of Calenella, surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation at the foot of the historic Monte Pucci tower, is known for its fine golden sand and its peaceful natural setting. Just five minutes from the Camping Village you can reach the picturesque town of Peschici, while the famous seaside town of Vieste offers breathtaking coastal scenery and a beautiful historic centre overlooking the sea.
Another distinctive feature of the Gargano coast are the Trabucchi, ancient wooden fishing platforms built on stilts that extend over the sea. Originally used for traditional fishing techniques, many of them have now been transformed into unique restaurants where visitors can enjoy fresh seafood while admiring the Adriatic coastline.
For those who love the sea and pristine landscapes, the Tremiti Islands are an unmissable destination. This stunning archipelago is one of the most beautiful marine reserves in Italy, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and unspoiled natural beauty.

Vico del Gargano

One of the most beautiful villages in Italy

Known as the “Village of Love”, Vico del Gargano is listed among “I Borghi più belli d’Italia” (The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy).
Its ancient origins are confirmed by prehistoric settlements discovered near the Umbra Forest and by the archaeological area known as the Tabor necropolis, where the town later developed.
Today Vico del Gargano preserves its authentic charm and natural beauty. A large part of the Umbra Forest, often called the green heart of the Gargano National Park, lies within its territory.

Peschici

a charming village overlooking the sea

Peschici is a picturesque coastal town built on a rocky cliff above the Adriatic Sea.
Its historic centre is characterised by narrow alleys, caves carved into the rock and traditional white houses with distinctive domed roofs. Walking through its streets you will find panoramic viewpoints, artisan shops and numerous restaurants where you can taste the authentic flavours of Apulian cuisine.
Thanks to its unique atmosphere and breathtaking views, Peschici remains one of the most popular destinations for visitors travelling to the Gargano.

Tremiti Islands

a protected marine paradise

TFor sea lovers and nature enthusiasts, the Tremiti Islands are a must-see destination when visiting the Gargano.
Thanks to their crystal-clear waters and untouched natural landscapes, this small archipelago has earned the nickname “Pearl of the Adriatic”.
Located about 10 nautical miles from the Gargano coast, the islands are famous for their spectacular marine environments and underwater landscapes, making them a popular destination for swimming, snorkelling and diving.
Since 1996 the Tremiti Islands have been part of the Gargano National Park Marine Reserve, ensuring the protection of their coastal ecosystems and extraordinary biodiversity.

The Umbra Fores

the green heart of the Gargano National Park

The Umbra Forest is one of the most important natural areas of the Gargano National Park and a UNESCO-recognised ecosystem.
This ancient forest is dominated by impressive beech trees and dense woodland vegetation that creates a cool and shaded environment throughout the year. The thick canopy and the height of the trees make the forest floor particularly dark and mysterious — a characteristic that inspired its name.
One of its most famous natural landmarks is the “Colossus of the Forest”, an enormous beech tree reaching around 5 metres in circumference and 40 metres in height.
Nearby lies the small lake known as Cutino di Umbra, a popular starting point for exploring the forest. From here begin 14 hiking trails that cross the woodland and allow visitors to discover its unique biodiversity. The trails are well marked with yellow signs on the trees and information panels along the routes, making them accessible for nature walks and outdoor excursions.
